James and Lucy Barclay are rearing indigenous rare breeds in Lincolnshire, under a ‘traditional’ production system in order to produce high quality, good tasting meat for sale direct to consumers, food retailers and food service outlets.
Together with Bidwells, their agri-business consultants, they want to understand regional patterns in the purchasing behaviour and shopper profiles for speciality meat products in order to expand their market and make their business more profitable.
The Barclay’s believe that growing public interest in high quality food, from a known source and produced under a welfare friendly system, offers new opportunities for farmers to market their produce.
